Monday: Regional festival with the Chichen Itza orchestra under direction of Carlos Uicab Chalé and the City Folkloric Ballet & Trova Yucateca . Held on street 62 between 61 and 63 bottom floor of the Municipal Palace (west building of the main plaza). 9 p.m. Free admission.
Tuesday: Enjoy big band music of the 40's. "Banda Continental" under direction of Carlos Uicab Chalé: You can vibrate with this even if you are 20. Parque de Santiago on the corner of Calle 59 and 72, 8:30 p.m. Free admission.
Tip: Locals meeting place for dinner at the loncherias.
Wednesday: Folkloric Ballet of the Universidad Autonoma de Yucatán (UADY). Held at the Peon Contreras theater, Calle 60 and 57. Ticket 80 pesos per person at the door. Ninety dancers on stage taking you to a legendary past. Performance at 9 p.m.
Thursday: Trova Yucateca, well known as "Serenata de Santa Lucia" open air concert featuring Yucatecan dress, dance music and folklore. Calle 60 by 55 Parque de Santa Lucia. 9 p.m. Free admission.
Friday: Folkloric Ballet of the Instituto de Cultura del Estado de Yucatán (ICEY) and Trova Yucateca. Pasaje Picheta, interior the Governor's Palace (North building of the Main Plaza). 8 p.m. Free admission.
Folkloric Ballet of the Universidad Autonoma de Yucatán (UADY). Interior central patio of the University on the corner of Calle 60 and 57. Staring at 9 p.m. Entrance fee: 10 pesos.
Saturday: “Noche Mexicana” with Mexican music and dance. Paseo de Montejo and Calle 47, pedestrian area. 7 p.m. Free admission.
“Heart of Mérida” festival – Plaza and Calle 60 up to Calle 53. 8 p.m. - 1 a.m. Free admission.
Sunday: "Mérida en Domingo" is a very successful program with an outdoor handcraft market and food festival established since 1990 by the local government. It starts at the main plaza up Calle 60 to Hidalgo Park and Santa Lucia Park - streets are closed, live music all day long from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Its main goal is the entertainment of the families and it's been a mean for new local artists looking for opportunities. Singers, musicians, actors, clowns, etc. make performances whether alone or in small groups where they show their skills to the public.
The local folkloric ballet features traditional "jaranas" elegantly dressed with their typical Yucatecan clothes, the Band with music from the 40's will make you vibrate with their classic melodies from those old times...you will be amazed at how this people play. There's a lot of activity for all kind of merchants selling typical clothes, arts and crafts, souvenirs, old coins, antiques, jewelery, local food, etc.
